Preparing For Gynecologic Laparoscopy

It may take several hours for the anesthesia to take effect and for the patient to feel comfortable during the procedure.
The procedure usually lasts about one hour. Following the procedure, you will be asked to follow certain precautions. You should refrain from having sexual intercourse or any physical contact with your partner for 24 to 48 hours following the procedure. You mustn’t have vaginal bleeding because this can be very painful and can increase the risk of infection. Your doctor will prescribe pain medications after the procedure.
How is Gynecologic Laparoscopy Performed?
Laparoscopy is performed with the patient under general anesthesia. The procedure is done in the operating room. The surgeon will use an instrument called a laparoscope to look inside your abdomen and pelvis. They will insert the laparoscope through the belly button and into the abdomen. The laparoscope has a small lens on the end that allows the surgeon to see images on a TV screen. Recovery after Gynecologic Laparoscopy

If the surgery was done for the removal of the ovaries, you may have an incision in the abdomen to insert the ovary back into your body. There may be stitches around the incision site.
