Volumetric weight is a unit to judge the density of a shipment, widely used in the courier industry. When density of an item is less, it tends to occupies more space than an item with high density.
In view of this, the cost of transportation of a shipment mainly depends on the extent of space it occupies during distribution and not on its actual weight.
Volumetric weight, which is also called dimensional weight, is a measure to calculate the space likely to be occupied by the shipment. This weight is calculated by the following method:
